Ami, Just wanted to drop you a line to thank you for the wonderful job you have done in both the Puppy and Basic classes we have taken with you. As you know, Katie (the Black and White English Springer Spaniel) has come a long way from her wild beginnings. Both Cori and I give much of the credit to you and your class. Katie has become as well behaved at 7 months as our prior Springer was at 5 years. The techniques you teach and the way you teach them are wonderful and make it a pleasant and rewarding experience to train a dog. We are looking forward to the fall to continue with your Advanced class.

See you in September.
Thanks again, Dana, Cori, and Katie

Ami's Philosophy of Training Dogs

There are those who say that a wolf and a dog are nothing alike. These people say that the needs of the wolf and the needs of the dog are different. Yet science says that the wolf and the dog are the same species, the same animal--brothers. We know now that any difference between the dog and the wolf is comparable to the difference between a black person and a white person-superficial, cosmetic and cultural.

Your dog, like the wild wolf requires a leader to follow in order to be mentally and emotionally balanced and happy. Without this psychological submission and surrender to your human will, the dog is as a lunatic: unreliable, untrustworthy, and unpredictable.

It is your job to lead, to fulfill the dogs most basic primal need; to follow, and thus put the dog in touch with his "inner wolf".

Wolves in the wild are not neurotic, aren't needlessly aggressive, don't have separation anxiety, aren't obese, aren't hyperactive and aren't obsessive-compulsive. Our beloved suburban/urban dogs don't need to be burdened with these afflictions anymore either. All you have to do is take the lead and you can transform your dog "from naughty to nice".

Ami's Methods of Dog Training

Dog training involves a unique approach that is highly conducive to rapid canine learning and retention. This approach is based upon what we call Nana's Law. Nana's Law means that the dog is allowed to take the responsibility to choose his reward. The standard dog training method which relies on cookies is more like bribery.

As an example let's assume that you know that you have to come to the table with washed hands in order to eat. You, silly child, decide to test the rules. You show up with dirty hands. When bribery is used, your mother tells you, "If you wash your hands I will give you a $20.00 dollar bill."

If your mother uses Nana's Law, your mother tells you, "When you wash your hands you are welcome to sit down and have dinner." And your mother doesn't let you eat dinner until your hands are clean. Which lesson allows children to learn, take responsibility and wash their hands before dinner with the least work from the parents?

By using the principles of Nana's Law you learn to create a confident dog and a harmonious home life and the dog does all the work. When you combine Nana' Law with dog psychology and you will to learn how to rehabilitate your dog immediately.
